The Smith's patent carbine was designed as a single shot brecchloading rifle in percussion .50 caliber. This model had a signifigant role in the Civil War and most of the original production was contracted out to the government. The action is broken open by pressing on the brass lever in front of the trigger. This carbine is offered in two confirgurations: the Cavalry with no sling swivels and the Artillery version with sling swivels. Each carbine comes with a set of brass cartridges included in the box. The Smith carbine features a case hardened steel frame, walnut carbine style buttstock and forend, and blued parts.
