This blued conversion cylinder converts steel frame Pietta 1851-61 Navy revolvers from .36 black powder to .38LC smokeless ammunition. The conversion can be ordered with or without the roll engraved naval battle scene to match the black powder cylinder engraving. Due to the over sized barrel bore on these black powder revolvers, for the best accuracy hollow-base bullet ammunition should be used. Reloading/loading is done by removing the barrel, cylinder, and then removing the cylinder cap from the cylinder. The cylinder contains 6 firing pins retained by threaded doughnuts. The cap is reinstalled by lining up the hole in the cap with the silver guide pin on top of the cylinder. If shooting black powder ammunition the firings pins must be removed and cleaned to avoid corrosion. No frame modification is needed, although minor fitting may be required due to gun manufacturer variations. If you order the conversion cylinder and gun on the same order Taylor's will fit your first conversion cylinder to your gun at no charge before it ships out as a complimentary service. Cylinders must ship separate from the black powder revolver if purchased at the same time and this may result in additional shipping charges.

HAPPY CUSTOMER: 38 Conversion Cylinder
Review by Roy K. on 14 Jul 2024 review stating HAPPY CUSTOMER: 38 Conversion Cylinder
Purchased 38 caliber conversion kit for 1851 Pietta Navy Colt. Out of the box, I spent a couple of hours fine tuning the cylinder to fit the gun. Had some minor binding as I worked through the hammer settings. Cleaned it up, put some mil grease on and it operated fine. Bought some cowboy loads (MAGTECH, 38 SPL, L-Flat, 125 grain) and went to the r...Read MoreRead more about review stating HAPPY CUSTOMER: 38 Conversion Cylinder
ange. Final adjustment to the wedge after loading up and the rest was history. Nice group at 15 and 20 yards. Was surprised based on other reviews I’ve seen on accuracy. Would have given 5 stars if it just dropped in and operated right out of the box. To be fair they state on the site may require adjustments. Very happy! I ordered three of these in December 23 as Christmas gifts for sons. Loaded 148 grains hollow base wad cutters in 38 special cases and fired several cylinders full. Accuracy at 15 yards was very acceptable. Hollow base bullets will perform in the Navies .375 barrels.

Q: Will 38spcl 158grain ammo work? Thanks.

Taylor's Staff

A: It must be 38LC as the 38SP will not fit, also 850 fps velocity or lower ammo since it is a conversion.
